A High Court sitting in the Gwarzo Division of Kano State has sentenced an 85-year-old man, Malam Isah Abdullahi, to 14 years’ imprisonment for rape.
The conviction, secured by the Kano State Ministry of Justice, followed a successful prosecution that proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

According to a statement by the ministry’s spokesman, Najib Lawan Dambazau, the offence was committed on November 30, 2024, in Sauna, Gabasawa Local Government Area.
Delivering judgment, Justice Aisha Mahmud found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison, noting that the court considered a plea for leniency by the defence before issuing its verdict.
The case was prosecuted by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Salisu Muhammad Tahir, alongside his legal team.
Reacting to the judgment, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, commended the prosecution, describing the outcome as a reflection of the ministry’s commitment to justice.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to protect the rights and dignity of victims while ensuring perpetrators of sexual offences are brought to justice.
