Kano Fire Service Rescues Newborn Dumped In Pit Toilet

Fire Service operatives in Kano State have rescued a newborn baby thrown into a pit toilet in Sabon Titi Quarters of Gidan Kankara, Kano municipal local government area of the state.

It was said that the baby was dumped any an alleged mentally challenged 25-year-old mother identified as Hauwa Muhammad.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, after a girl was found crying, shouting that her mother had thrown her sister into the pit.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi also confirmed the incident in a statement.

Abdullahi explained that the service received a distress call from a member of its staff, Ibrahim Umar-Muhammad, around 10:54 a.m., and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene.

He said:
Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our rescue team and a vehicle to the scene at about 10:54 a.m.”

Muhammed said that the mentally challenged mother, who also had another six-year-old daughter, gave birth to the newborn and dumped the baby in a latrine.

Luckily for the newborn, the six-year-old sister quickly raised an alarm about her mother’s actions, and with the good efforts of neighbours and firemen, the baby was rescued alive.

The newborn has hence been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
