Kano Government has approved the transmission of a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to outlaw same-sex marriage and other practices it described as immoral.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who presided over the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House Annex, Kwankwasiyya City, said his administration would not compromise Islamic values or cultural heritage.

“Under no circumstances will we allow acts that contradict our religion and traditions to take root in Kano. This government is duty-bound to protect the moral integrity of our society,” the governor declared in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

 

The proposed bill specifically bans same-sex marriage, Madigo (Lesbianism) and Luwadi (Homosexuality), with offenders to face strict sanctions once the law is passed.

Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that lawmakers would treat the bill with urgency, stressing its importance to the moral and social well-being of the state.
