In a move to expedite negotiations on the new national minimum wage, the Organised Labour has reduced its demand from N615,000 to N500,000 during the ongoing Tripartite Committee meeting.

According to reports, the government team is still insisting on N54,000, citing inadequate funds and the private sector’s inability to pay.

However, the private sector has increased its offer by N3,000, from N54,000 to N57,000.

Reports also revealed that the government has acknowledged the evidence-based approach of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) but stressed the non-implementation of the 2019 minimum wage by eight states.

It was said that Labour agreed to compromise by reducing its demand to N500,000 in response to the government’s stance.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, attended the meeting, bringing a much-needed presence of a state governor, as the six governors on the committee have been frequently absent.
