Lady Gaga recently opened up about her decision to ignore rumors that she was transgender, explaining her choice during an interview with Variety.
The singer revealed that she opted not to address the speculation because she didn’t want to contribute to the idea that being transgender was something to be ashamed of.
“I didn’t feel like a victim with that lie,” Lady Gaga said. “I thought, what about a kid being accused of that who might think someone like me would feel shame? I’ve been in situations where clearing up a rumor wasn’t in the best interest or well-being of others.”
This comes after Gaga’s recent announcement of her engagement to her French boyfriend, Michael Polansky, whom she was introduced to by her mother.
