The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has commenced the removal of structures obstructing the free flow of rainwater and causing flooding in Okezie Ugbaja Street and other parts of Okota, Oshodi – Isolo Local Government Area.

 

This followed the commitment of the Lagos State government to ensure a cleaner Lagos and zero tolerance for building on drainage right of way.

Meanwhile, several warnings were issued to offenders, and today marked the initiation of concrete action to address the issue.

 

The Lagos State Commissioner of Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known via his verified X handle (@tokunbo_wahab).

The post read, “Following several notices served, the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and other enforcement units of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources today commenced the removal of contravening structures built on the drainage channel in Okezie Ugbaja street and other parts of Okota, Oshodi – Isolo LGA.

 

“The Lagos State government @followlasg reiterates its commitment to ensuring a cleaner Lagos and zero tolerance to building on drainage right of way. The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will remove any structure obstructing the free flow of rainwater and causing flooding in all parts of the State.”

 

The commissioner mentioned that any structure that impeded drainage systems would be promptly demolished to mitigate the risk of flooding and uphold the safety and well-being of residents.
