The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has granted state pardon to popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, and husband, Abdulrasheed Bello.
The state pardon also saw the release of 56 inmates from the various correctional centers in Lagos.
Recall that the Nollywood actress alongside her husband were convicted on April 6, 2020, by a Lagos Magistrate Court for violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations.

The couple had been sentenced to 2-weeks community service, isolation and a non-custodian sentence.
In respect to the state pardon granted on both couple, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, acted based on recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, under the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 212 (1) and (2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution, as amended and according to a statement by the Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN).
Meanwhile, the released 56 inmates were recommended by the Advisory Council after due examination of their case files, gravity of offence, old-age, ill-health problems, length of time served, among other parameters.
