The International Criminal Court (ICC) has disclosed that it has started a preliminary investigation into the alleged shootings of #EndSARS protesters at the Lagos Lekki Toll Gate, which occurred on October 20.

In a recent released statement, the office of the ICC Prosecutor had said that it had received information and petitions on some alleged crimes in Nigeria during the recent controversial #EndSARS protests across the country.

As quoted by BBC, the examination will “assess whether the legal criteria for opening an investigation under the Rome Statute are met”.

Meanwhile, the Amnesty International Rights Group has also claimed shootings by security forces on protesters, which led to some casualties.

The Army and Police have denied and rejected Amnesty’s allegations.

The ICC promised that it would make findings of the preliminary investigation public.
