Former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has ranked Andrea Onana among the top three goalkeepers in the world. Lindegaard made this statement while defending Onana, who faced criticism last season.
He emphasized that Onana was brought to Manchester United for his exceptional footwork, a skill he demonstrated at Ajax and Inter Milan. “I think Onana has handled the pressure very well,” Lindegaard said, as quoted by Manchester United’s website. “He received a lot of criticism, and I believe it was too much. He wasn’t brought to Manchester United just to make world-class saves like David De Gea. He was brought because he has world-class feet. In terms of distribution and passing, he’s among the top three goalkeepers globally.”
Lindegaard also noted that expectations for Andrea Onana should be adjusted, acknowledging that while he excels in ball distribution, he may not dominate the boxes like Thibaut Courtois or make as many fingertip saves as De Gea.
