Argentina captain Lionel Messi has highlighted Valentin Carboni as one of Argentina’s rising stars, praising the young midfielder’s exceptional quality.
Carboni, who made his senior debut for Argentina in a 3-1 win against Costa Rica in March, earned his first start for the national team on Friday against Guatemala. The 19-year-old stood out as a key performer on the right wing.
Carboni joined Inter in 2020 and recently completed a loan spell at Serie A club Monza. He is now vying for a spot in Argentina’s final Copa America squad, with the reigning World Cup champions set to open their Group A campaign against Canada on June 21.

“Carboni has a great present and future. We must take advantage of him, as well as many young players who come with great potential,” Messi told TyC Sports. “Since we arrived in the United States, he has been training with us. We had seen him in the Under-20s, but he has grown a lot. He is a different player now, much more developed and with exceptional quality.”
