Man Caught on CCTV Withdrawing Money From Slain UNILORIN Student’s Account

A Bank staff, Babatunji Lawal, has narrated how a man was captured on CCTV making a withdrawal from the account of the slain UNILORIN student, Olajide Omowumi Blessing.

Recall that the 300 level Agricultural Science student was found dead in her apartment on 2nd June 2021 with bruises on her private parts and her mouth gagged.

According to the pathologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Dr. Kayode Adeniyi “she was raped and strangled to death.”

The DSS arrested eight suspects who were connected to the rape and murder incident and they first appeared before Justice I.A. Jusuf on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Evidence presented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Salman Jawondo, through the banker revealed to the court that the bank CCTV footage had prior to that day captured the image of the 6th defendant, Abdullateef Abdulrahman when he came to make a withdrawal from the said account.

According to Lawal, aside from ATM withdrawal, the suspect also used a Microfinance bank app to withdraw money from late Blessing’s account amounted to the sum of N50,000.

“The bank CCTV captured the suspect while withdrawing the money from the ATM while putting on a head warner in the process. Withdrawals through the ATM and a Microfinance bank application amounted to N50,000 including bank charges,” Lawal added.

The banker presented footage from the CCTV camera which was admitted as evidence by the court.

The case was however adjourned to August 18 by Justice Adebayo Yusuf, the Judge of Kwara State High Court, for a continuation of trial.
