Panna Lal, from Uttar Pradesh, India reportedly attacked his wife, Anita Devi, with a sickle in September 2020, cutting open her stomach to determine the gender of their unborn child.
Lal was later sentenced to life in prison for the heinous crime against 8-month Pregnant Devi.
The couple had a history of conflict, with the husband desperate for a son despite having five daughters.
On the day of the attack, a heated argument over the baby’s gender turned violent, with her threatening to kill her before using the sickle to cut open her stomach.

Fortunately, Devi survived the attack but lost her baby, a boy.
The court rejected 46-year-old Lal’s claims that she had inflicted the wounds herself.
Lal was sentenced to life imprisonment by the fast track court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Saurabh Saxena on May 23, 2024.
