Man Rescued from Lagos Lagoon After Accidental Fall

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has rescued a man who accidentally fell into the Lagos Lagoon.

According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received a distress call at 7:43am on Friday through the toll-free emergency numbers 767 and 112, reporting a man had fallen into the lagoon at Falomo Bridge.

The LASEMA response team from the Lekki zone quickly arrived at the scene at 8:02am and found the man, identified as Segun Amoo, had been resuscitated. Amoo explained that he had mistakenly fallen into the lagoon.

Further investigation revealed that officials from the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) had observed Amoo struggling in the lagoon waters around 11:00pm the previous night and responded promptly, rescuing him and providing initial care.

The LASEMA team then took over and stabilized Amoo before handing him over to his relatives at his residence in Ilaje-Bariga.

Amoo clarified that he was not attempting to harm himself and explained how the incident occurred.

His brother, Atteji Benuwa thanked the emergency responders for rescuing his brother, stating that the family had been searching for him for some time.
