Manchester United’s participation in the Europa League next season is uncertain despite their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Their 2-1 win at Wembley secures Erik ten Hag’s team a spot in the Europa League alongside Tottenham Hotspur.
However, United could be excluded from the competition due to INEOS’ ownership of the French club Nice.

UEFA’s rules prohibit two clubs owned by the same entity from competing in the same tournament. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS owns a 27% stake in United and plans to invest an additional £245 million, raising their ownership to over 30%. This exceeds UEFA’s threshold for multi-club ownership while being the sole owners of Nice.
Nice finished fifth in Ligue 1, qualifying them for the Europa League. If INEOS cannot resolve the issue, one of their clubs might be relegated to the UEFA Conference League. Nice would keep their Europa League spot due to their higher league finish compared to United’s eighth-place finish.
