Manchester United Eye Bayern’s Matthijs de Ligt as Alternative Defensive Signing

Matthijs de Ligt

Bayern Munich are asking Manchester United for a €50 million (£42 million) transfer fee for their defender, Matthijs de Ligt.

With Raphael Varane’s departure, Manchester United are keen to sign a new center-back in this summer’s transfer window. Their primary target, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, had an initial £45 million offer rejected this week.

As Everton is demanding over £70 million for the 21-year-old, United are considering other options. According to Sky Germany, De Ligt has emerged as an alternative, and Manchester United have started internal discussions about the Netherlands international, who previously played under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
