The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has sparked controversy by asserting that she has completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program at least twice.

This claim was made during her appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, as she addressed ongoing scrutiny regarding her NYSC certificate.

Musawa’s comments come in the wake of her previous failure to provide the Nigerian Senate with proof of her participation in the mandatory service during her confirmation process in 2023.

This oversight has led to legal challenges from concerned citizens who argue that her appointment without completing the NYSC is unacceptable.

“I don’t know what you have heard. There have been so many different accounts regarding this situation. The fact that I am sitting here means I didn’t do anything wrong,” Musawa stated, indicating her reluctance to clarify the matter at this time.

When pressed further on her obligation to provide transparency, she remained evasive, asserting, “I think what I owe Nigerians is to say that I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t break the law. The NYSC I did and finished. That is the much I can tell you.”

According to NYSC regulations, the program is intended as a one-time experience for Nigerian graduates, making Musawa’s claims particularly contentious.

She assured viewers that she would eventually share her full account to set the record straight but has not committed to a timeline for doing so.
