> “My coach and mentor Monday Sinclair is dead. He died today.”
Sinclair built his reputation with tactical flair on the pitch in the 1960s.
He then influenced football in Nigeria at all levels.
When Philippe Troussier left in 1997, Sinclair took charge of the Super Eagles on a caretaker basis.
He led the team in friendlies against Tunisia and Zambia while showcasing the skills of striker Kenneth Zeigbo.
Sinclair scouted tirelessly and was a mentor to young players all over the country.
He wrote coaching manuals, being one of a scant few Nigerian coaches to do so.
These guides evolved into reference books for future strategists.
The legacy of Sinclair lives on through the players he nurtured, through those coaches his work inspired, and through the pages of Nigerian football history he helped write.
