Mourinho Blames Referee, VAR For Derby Loss

Jose Mourinho has blasted the referee and VAR after Lazio triumphed over his Roma team 3-2 in a thriling ‘Serie A’ encounter on Sunday.

He said his side still dominated the match notwithstanding that the game ended in favour of the home team.

Mourinho was not happy about a potential foul in the build-up to Lazio’s 2nd goal, netted by Pedro Rodriguez, his club’s former winger in the 19th minute.

Roma suffered their second away defeat in just a week, first succumbing to Verona who also beat them 3-2 on September 19th.

They had a thin win in the meantime with just a goal lead over Udinese on the 23rd.

The loss to rivals, Lazio doubled his defeats since he joined Roma in the summer.

Roma, who have now descended to fourth in Serie A table, will be clashing against Zorya next in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.

Mourinho told reporters: “Italian football has improved a lot. But unfortunately, the referee and VAR were not at the right level for this fantastic match.”

“On the 2-0 goal it could have been 1-1, the referee and VAR made a mistake. This is too much.”

“The lack of a second yellow for Leiva is also important. It was a similar situation to Pellegrini, he got red but today there was nothing.”

“We were the better team on the pitch. Obviously, when you concede three goals, something has gone wrong, but the second and third were counter-attacks.”

He added: “We tried, we dominated. We gave everything and put Lazio in difficulty. ”
