NDLEA Arrests 80-Year-Old Ex-Convict, Seizes Drugs Across Multiple States

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an 80-year-old ex-convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, barely three years after he completed a two-year prison sentence for drug offences.

According to a statement on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Nkanta was apprehended on 10th January 2026 at his Mmanta–Abak village residence in Akwa Ibom State with 5.7 kilograms of skunk cannabis.

Similarly, a 37-year-old businessman, Ani Onyebuchi Romans, was intercepted along Oron-Ibaka Road in Akwa Ibom State on 9th January while transporting full-body mannequins stuffed with 5.3 kilograms of tramadol pills to Cameroon. The suspect reportedly purchased the drugs in Onitsha, Anambra State.

In Oyo State, NDLEA raids led to multiple arrests, including Remi Bamidele (alias ‘Aluko the Mafia’), who was found with 10.696 kilograms of various cannabis strains and two vehicles. Other suspects in Ibadan, Adeola Toheeb and Habeeb Ali, were also arrested with cannabis and over ₦1.3 million in cash.

In Edo State, dispatch rider Osagbovo Edigin (30) and two others were arrested in connection with seizures of Canadian Loud and Colorado cannabis, while Jimoh Agbonmhegbe (49) and Evelyn Okoyomon (38) were apprehended in Irrua and Ubiaja with over 18 kilograms of cannabis.

In Niger and Adamawa states, NDLEA seized thousands of tramadol capsules from suspects including Nazifi Umar (22) and Ugwoke Chibueze (40). In Taraba State, Yusuf Usman (41) was arrested with 47 kilograms of skunk.

Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers for their operational successes and emphasized the agency’s continued commitment to both drug supply and demand reduction, alongside nationwide sensitization campaigns in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities.
