NDLEA Seizes 7.6m Tramadol Pills, 76,000kg Cannabis in Nationwide Raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has seized more than 7.6 million tramadol pills and over 76,273 kilograms of cannabis in a series of coordinated intelligence-driven operations across several states.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said 3,874,000 tramadol pills (100mg and 225mg) and 252.2 litres of codeine syrup were recovered on December 6 during a raid on a warehouse at Oko Market, Asaba, Delta State.

Similarly, operatives intercepted 1.2 million tablets of tramadol 225mg on December 3 from a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Kelechi Nwakocha along the Onitsha–Owerri Road, Imo State. The consignment was reportedly loaded in Aba, Abia State, and headed for Onitsha.

In Adamawa State, officers on December 1 stopped a Toyota Hiace bus along the Maraba–Mubi route and discovered 1,577,112 tramadol and Exol-5 capsules concealed in jumbo bags mixed with sandals and slippers. Two suspects, Kabiru Buba, 25, and Hamza Abubakar, 32, were arrested, while another suspect, Mudansir Rabiu, 27, was picked up along the Zaria–Kano Road with 197,000 Exol-5 pills.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives destroyed 14,654kg of skunk hidden in forests in Omuo-Ekiti and arrested two suspects, Yusuf Iliyasu, 50, and Okumu Chinedu, 26. Another operation on December 2 at Asin-Ekiti led to the destruction of 54,300kg of skunk stored in two large warehouses, with an additional 28.3kg recovered for prosecution purposes.

Also on December 2, officers stormed Igoba Forest in Akure North LGA, Ondo State, recovering 2,483 compressed blocks and 247 bags of skunk weighing 5,442kg. Five suspects — Jacob Omodowo, 66; Joy Oluatobi Peace, 24; Babatunde Olamide, 40; Echi Fidelis Joseph, 57; and Ankrah Akano, 56 — were arrested.

In Edo State, 447.5kg of skunk was recovered from two Honda Accord cars in Agho Forest, Akoko Edo LGA, leading to the arrest of 56-year-old Dada Adedara Babawibi. Another 315.8kg was seized during a raid on a warehouse in Isiefve community, Ohuwunde LGA, where suspect Stanley Obasuwa was taken into custody.

Babafemi said the agency remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks nationwide through sustained intelligence, surveillance and targeted operations.
