Over 30,000 former agitators from the Niger Delta gathered in Warri on Friday to firmly oppose the planned protests set for October 1st.

The youths, resolute in their stance, declared that no protests would take place in any of the nine states within the Niger Delta.

They urged the local populace to steer clear of any demonstrations before, during, or after October 1st, labelling the protest organisers as self-serving.

During a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, the programme’s Administrator, conveyed the ex-agitators’ confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would address the region’s challenges.

Otuaro stressed the necessity of maintaining peace, advocating for constructive engagement with the government as the optimal path to progress and development.

He said:

“The people of the Niger Delta will not participate in any protests. The President will resolve our issues, but it is our duty to ensure our region is not exploited for protests.”

He further pointed out the collective responsibility to maintain peace and support the Federal Government’s initiatives to enhance local communities.

Echoing these sentiments, Niger Delta leader Paul Elvis, also known as General Ogubos, called for peace, asserting that “war is not the solution to the region’s challenges.”
