The statement reads in full;
“I, Hon Binebai Desmond, the 2023 ADC candidate for the Burutu Constituency (1) Delta State House of Assembly seat, on behalf of my party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the good people of Burutu constituency 1, salute and congratulate Nigerians, the Martyrs, Heroes, Armed Forces, and Nationalists for the sacrifices they made and thank them for giving us and securing our freedom for us in these 62 years of Nigeria’s existence.
“It is my wish that the flag of our country fly higher and higher each year and the labour of our past leaders should not be in vain.
“Going forward, as we record and celebrate Nigeria@62 today, it becomes important we have a sober reflection on how far we have come and how far we will go as a nation.
“Our country, although recorded few positive developments in these 62 years of self-rule, has moved from celebration to mourning, laughter to weeping, joy to sorrow and life to death due to a listless charade of national challenges championed by poor and bad leadership.
“Our dear Country Nigeria is at a crossroads today, tossed about by religious, ethnic, and regional intolerance and acrimony, leadership, individual and institutional corruption, ethnic and religious fueled terror organisations and the decadence of public institutions and underdevelopment orchestrated by stealing in government.
“The trajectory of our country amid our challenges is fast-approaching tragedy and then, it becomes pertinent we imbibe the spirit of patriotism and redress the leadership failure being institutionalised across all levels of Nigerian leadership.
“For national integration and growth, Nigerians should rise against religious, regional and ethnic extremism, sentiments, and bias and make Nigerian national patriotism the first before every other thing.
“Nigerians should imbibe the culture of selfless services whenever leadership responsibilities are given at any level going forward.
“Nigerians must query, sanction and try any leader found corrupt, inept, weak, clueless and not patriotic and always choose the leaders with proven integrity and love for the development of Nigeria.
“The day Nigerians cease to vote for bad, visionless and corrupt leaders dedicated to stealing public funds, certificate forgery and corruption will be the beginning of our complete independence.
“The forthcoming 2023 general election is another opportunity for Nigerians to make a patriotic statement. This could be only done when the right persons are elected into office.
“We fought to have our freedom, may we continue to cherish it and take advantage of it to build a better future for us. Happy 62nd Independence.”
