The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has narrowed down its search for the next head coach of the Super Eagles to seven candidates.

As reported by SCORENigeria, one of the contenders for the prestigious role is Finidi George, who currently serves as the interim head coach of the team. Finidi recently led the Super Eagles in the friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.

The vacancy arose earlier this month when the contract of the former head coach, Jose Peseiro, expired. Peseiro, who guided the Super Eagles to a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, saw his tenure come to an end.

In response to the vacancy, the Nigeria Football Federation received applications from both local and foreign coaches, indicating a diverse pool of talent vying for the position.

Anticipation is high as the football governing body is expected to announce the appointment of a permanent head coach for the Super Eagles next month, marking an important decision for the future of Nigerian football.
