The year 2021 has been a long year, as we lost some of our favorite Nigerian celebrities to the cold hands of death. Compiled in this post is the list of Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021.

Rachel Oniga
First on the list is veteran Nigerian actress, Racheal Oniga.
Actress Rachel Oniga was born on May 23, 1957. She is a native of Delta State, although she was born and raised in Lagos.

Rachel Oniga, who had worked at Ascoline Nigeria Limited — a Dutch Consultant Company — began her acting career in 1993, releasing her first movie titled Onome, her first Yoruba debut was Owo Blow.
The actress gained her popularity and respect amongst others in the movie industry as she got featured in reputable films such as Sango — a movie scripted by Wale Ogunyemi and produced and directed by Obafemi Lasode — and Wale Adenuga’s television series, Super story.
Rachel Oniga died on July 30, 2021, from a heart-related ailment.
Baba Suwe
The ace Nigerian comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, was born on August 22, 1958.
Baba Suwe began acting in 1971, but came into the limelight after he featured in Omolasan, a movie produced by Obalende. He got more recognition and popularity after he featured innIru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.
The comic actor died on November 22, 2021, after suffering a partial stroke since his ordeal with the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency ten years ago.
Sound Sultan
Adding to the list of Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021, is popular Nigerian singer, Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan was, among other things an actor, model, and comedian.
Sound Sultan was born on November 27, 1976. He started his career in show business he started in the 90s after hosting a show to raise money for studio sessions.
By 1999, Sound Sultan had gained more popularity, as he won numerous local talent-hunt shows. He released his first single “Jagbajantis” in 2000, which was a hit in Nigeria.
Sound Sultan died on July 11, 2021, after he was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma.
Abiodun Aleja
Abiodun was a producer, actor, and movie director. One of his many works which got people talking more about him is his directed films; October 1, Don’t Live Here Anymore, and Sade.
He passed away on the 21st of May.
Stanley Okoro
The whole of Nigeria shook at the news of the death of this comic actor. Stanley Okori, who is known for his comedy roles in the Nigerian movie industry was said to have died of suspected food poisoning after his shoot in a hotel in Maryland, Enugu State.
However, the reason for his death is still made unknown. Stanley Okoro died at the age of 28.
Victor Olaotan
Victor Olaotan, an actor better known for his role in TV series, Tinsel, was announced dead on 26th of August.
According to reports, Victor had been ill for the past five years, following a brain injury he sustained in a car accident in October 2016 at Apple junction, Festac, Lagos.
He was seen in movies such as “Three Wise Men” and “Unveil”. He died at the age of 69.
Sir Victor Uwaifo
The list of Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021 would be incomplete without mentioning this great icon.
Sir Uwaifo was a professor of Art at the University of Benin and was wildly known for his love for highlife. He won the first gold disc in Africa (Joromi), which was released in 1965.
Rumors had it that he died as a result of COVID-19 complications, but his family debunked the news, claiming he died of pneumonia.
He passed away on 28th August 2021, at the age of 80.
Prince Ifeanyi Dike
Prince Ifeanyi Dike was an actor, as well as the Board of Trustees Chairman, Actors Guild Nigeria (AGN).
Dike, who was hospitalized for weeks as a result of Kidney related issues passed on shortly after the demise of famous actor Victor Olaotan.
Dokta Frabz
Dokta Franz is a veteran Nigerian producer, who has worked for many music giants in Nigeria.
He had worked with many music stars like Davido, Wizkid, and many others. Some of his productions include; Thank God by the late Dagrin Da Grin, Joy by Wizkid, and many more.
The news of his demise was announced on Twitter by his fellow producer, Sammy Klef in February 2021. He died in the United States and the cause of his death is still unclear.
Ada Jesus
Ada Jesus was one of Nigeria’s biggest sensations in the comedy section of entertainment. The young actress was battling kidney diseases, but she however lost the battle.
She was said to have suffered a Cardiac arrest in the night and was rushed to the intensive care unit of Zenith Medical & Kidney Centre where the doctors monitored her, she died the following morning at approximately 7:15 on 20th April 2021.
Sam Obiago
Sam Obiago is one of Nigeria’s most popular Nollywood actors, well known for his roles as king or an elder. The Nollywood star is said to hail from the Delta State of Nigeria, ad lived in Asaba, the state capital.
Daddy Sam, as he is popularly called, was a banker with ECO and Access Bank from 1991 to 2001 before retiring to join the movie industry.
Movies Sam Obiago had starred in include Gifted, Tears of a Kind, Woman of Fire, Ghana Island, Royal Turning Point, and many others.
His death was announced on the 23rd of December. He was said to be in his early 50s.
Jim Maduike
Jim Lawson Maduike was an Imo-born actor, who featured in numerous Nollywood films.
The veteran actor gave up the ghost on January 9, 2021, after complaining of severe body pains.
Bruno Iwuoha
Bruno Iwuoha is one of Nigeria’s golden actors of his time. He hails from Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Umunumo kindred, Imo state.
Bruno was 68 years when he died after a prolonged battle with diabetes. He is survived by his wife and six children.
TB Joshua
Another death that shook the whole of Nigeria and the world at large is that of Temitope Balogun Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).
TB Joshua was known for his prophetic ministrations and healing service, which was widely sought by Nigerians and foreigners for healing miracles.
The late prophetic reportedly suffered a stroke two months before his death and was flown to Turkey for treatment.
TB Joshua however died on June 5, at the age of 57.
