The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has issued an order to suspend the hike in electricity tariff for two weeks.

Recall that the hike in electricity tariff had been announced on September 1, 2020.

The suspension order of the “Multi Year Tariff Order 2020” was signed by the NERC Chairman, Prof. James Momoh, and released on NERC’s website on Wednesday.

The electricity tariff hike extension is in lieu of the agreement reached by the organized labour after the suspension of an earlier proposed strike on Sunday.

The NERC’S suspension order states that from September 28 to October 11, 2020, the DisCos must revert all charges to tariffs existing as from August 31.

The suspension is to enable wider consultations between the organized labour and government with the view to reach a resolution of the contending issues involved.
