Police in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India, have arrested a 32-year-old Nigerian man named Jones Duro Michael after they found methamphetamine with him worth 15 lakh rupees, which is around ₦27.9 million.
Reliable Tip-Off Leads to Arrest
Michael, who said he’s a footballer, was picked up last Saturday by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) close to the Vijayamangalam toll gate.
Inspector Sivahami Rani, who led the arrest, said it happened after they received reliable information.

Expired Passport, No Visa, and Suspected Sea Entry
When police looked deeper into the case, they found that Michael’s passport expired in 2023 and he didn’t have a valid visa or any legal documents to stay in India.
They believe he may have sneaked into the country through the sea.
> “His documents were not in order. There’s strong reason to believe he came in through unauthorized means,” said Inspector Rani.
Charges and Detention
Michael is now being held in Coimbatore Central Prison by court order.
He’s been charged under the NDPS Act and the Foreigners Act for having illegal drugs and staying in India without proper documents.
Landlord Also in Trouble
At the same time, the police also arrested a 49-year-old man named Melvin from Perundurai.
He was taken in for renting out his house to Michael without checking who he was or if his documents were valid.

Officials stressed that landlords must check who their tenants are and confirm their papers to avoid getting into trouble with the law.
