Police In India Arrest Nigerian Man over Fraud

The Cyber wing of the Kerala police have reportedly arrested a 26-year-old Nigerian national in Delhi on May 6, 2023, over fraud.

The suspect allegedly duped a woman of over one million naira after befriending her on Facebook.

According to the police report, the accused used a fake name and befriended the woman in early 2021.

On August 15 of the same year, he told her that a gift worth ₹30 crore has been sent to her as their Independence Day gift.

Subsequently, the woman received a call from someone claiming to be a diplomatic officer from Mumbai Customs, who asked her to deposit ₹22,000 to a bank account as Customs Duty.

The woman was then threatened to deposit more money in the following days.

In July 2022, she approached the police with a complaint who eventually arrested the yet-to-be properly identified suspect.
