2. EFCC rearrests Mompha

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again arrested suspected internet fraudsters,

Mompha, who is currently facing trial for abetting cybercrime, was arrested by the Lagos State Command of the Anti-graft agency on charges bordering on money laundering.

3. Gunmen kidnap former Imo Speaker, Others

Unknown gunmen on Saturday kidnapped a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Lawman Duruji.

He was abducted at Oriagu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area while returning from a function.

Also kidnapped was a popular businessman known only as Ezzybee, in Owerri.

Scores of others yet to be identified were also kidnapped between Saturday and Sunday.

4. Democracy is blind to fairness

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state has described the type of democracy being practised in Nigeria as one that lacks equity and fairness.

The governor, who said the principle of zoning should be entrenched in the nation’s political system, said democracy does not create the balance that is needed for natural justice.

5. Not releasing Nnamdi Kanu a mistake

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has told President Muhammadu Buhari he is making a mistake by not releasing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Buhari had in an interview aired last Wednesday declared he would not release the embattled IPOB leader.

In a statement on Sunday, Emma Powerful, IPOB’s spokesperson said: “Our attention has been drawn to the statement by President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria that he will not release our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

6. Men and women banned from swimming in the same pool

The Kano State Government has ordered a ban on men and women from swimming in the same pool.

Also, smoking Shisha, as well as a ban on children from entering into hotels, was enacted.

Baffa Dan-Agundi, the Chairman of the Committee announced the ban following a meeting with hotel and event centre owners in the state.

7. Juju Music icon Dayo Kujore dies

Legendary Nigerian Juju music icon, Dayo Kujore has died.

The Soko Extra Crooner died on Monday, January 10, 2022.

Dayo’s demise was confirmed by his daughter, Ayinke Kujore, Dayo Kujore.

8. 2023: APC presidential candidate will be from South

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has called for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election to come from the South.

Ngige further said that the South-East should be allowed to produce the next president to erase the separation agitations in the region.

9. IPOB enforces sit-at-home in Enugu

There was palpable tension in Enugu over the reinforcement of a sit-at-home by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

This follows a stampede at the Old Park, Okpara Avenue axis early morning on Monday in Enugu, the state capital.

While the cause of the stampede was yet to be ascertained, residents were reportedly running helter-skelter over the reinforcement being carried out by some IPOB members.

10. I’m not leaving PDP – Kwankwaso

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared he is not leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He, however, admitted he is not being well treated by the PDP.
