The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to provide detailed information about the newly acquired presidential jet and the old ones being sold off.

Obi made the call on Tuesday night, stressing that transparency and accountability should be the hallmark of any genuine leadership.

The newly acquired Airbus A330 business jet, which was purchased at a cost of $100m, has sparked controversy surrounding its purchase. Obi is demanding to know how much the jet cost, how old it is, and how long it has been in operation.

He also wants information about the old jets being disposed of, including how many, how old they are, and why they are being sold.

Obi emphasized that the federal government would lose nothing but respect if it fails to provide adequate information about its leadership to the people whose money is being deployed and whose mandate the President is holding.

He added that a presidential jet is a major symbol of national sovereignty and state power, and how much it costs to transport the president is a major issue of public account.
