The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an investigation into an incident where a female traveler destroyed a Nigerian passport at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the incident, which was captured on video and circulated on social media, has sparked concern among the public.

According to a statement released by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, the service has initiated a formal investigation into the matter.

When questioned about her actions, Igiebor responded, “Is it your passport?” The NIS has stated that her actions may be in violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which prohibited the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents.

The NIS reassured its commitment to enforcing the Immigration Act strictly to safeguard national security and preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s legal and diplomatic instruments.

It added that the service remained dedicated to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security and preserving the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.
