Oborevwori Condoles Warri Catholic Diocese Over Death Of Bishop Afareha

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Most Rev. John Okeoghene Afareha, who passed away at the age of 78.

In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, and issued in Asaba, the governor described the late cleric as a respected servant of God whose life of faith, humility and dedication left a lasting impact on the Church and society.

Governor Oborevwori said Bishop Afareha’s years of priestly and episcopal service were marked by spiritual discipline, pastoral simplicity and unwavering commitment to the growth of the Catholic faith, particularly within the Warri Diocese.

He noted that the passing of the Bishop Emeritus represents a significant loss not only to the Catholic Church but also to Delta State and humanity at large.

According to the governor, the late bishop was a father and shepherd whose life reflected service, sacrifice and total obedience to the will of God.

Oborevwori extended his heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Warri, Most Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, the clergy, religious and faithful of the diocese, as well as members of the Afareha family.

He prayed that God grants them strength, comfort and fortitude to bear the loss, while also asking for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed cleric.

The governor further prayed that God would grant Bishop Afareha eternal rest and reward him for a lifetime of devoted service to the Church and humanity.

Bishop Afareha was ordained a Catholic priest on December 30, 1973, and was consecrated Bishop on May 14, 1997.

The Catholic Diocese of Warri had earlier announced his passing with profound sorrow, expressing firm hope in the resurrection and commending his soul to the infinite mercy of God.
