The arrest of the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo has forced the Ogun State House of Assembly to suspend plenary indefinitely.
Oluomo was to preside over Thursday’s sitting before his arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Daily Report Nigeria reported earlier that Oluomo was arrested by EFCC officials on Thursday morning, September 1, at the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos, over allegations of corruption.

He was said to have been moved to Abuja for questioning.
Ogun state lawmakers suspended sitting after receiving news of his arrest.
It was learnt that the Deputy Speaker, Akeem Balogun, who is supposed to act in place of Oluomo did not convene the sitting of the house
The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Yussuf Adejojo, who confirmed the suspension of the plenary said “Yes, the House was supposed to sit today but due to one reason or the other, our sitting has been postponed until further notice.”
Asked if the suspension was due to Oluomo’s arrest, he responded “Well, it might be, but the information about the postponement has been out before the arrest of the Speaker, but it might be because as the Speaker, he is the one that will preside over the sitting, so the postponement might be because of this.”
In June 2021, EFCC began investigation of the assembly for alleged financial misappropriation.
Oluomo’s arrest was in connection with the investigation of financial fraud in the assembly.
The EFCC, acting on a petition written against Oluomo, had written a letter to the Assembly, demanding information on all budget appropriations and allocations of the House from May 30, 2015, till date.
