Former Anambra Governor, Obiano Charged by EFCC for N4bn Fraud

A former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly committing fraud worth N4 billion.

The charges against Obiano include nine-count of multiple fraud allegation

He was charged before Justice Inyang Ekwo, of the Federal High court Abuja on Wednesday.

Obiano is accused of transferring
N156,800.00 from the Anambra State Government Security Vote to a company belonging to C.I. Patty Ventures Nigeria Limited.

The offence, anti-graft agency said, is against Section 15 (2) (b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) in 2012 and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act.

The EFCC argued that the company has no business relationship with the government.

Obiano served as governor from March 2014 to March 2022.

He arrested by the EFCC on March 16, 2022, shortly after handing over to his successor, Charles Soludo.

If found guilty, the Ex-governor could face severe punishment.
