Niyi Ijalaye, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, has unexpectedly died after collapsing following a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.
His sudden death has shocked colleagues and left a void in the electoral community.

Niyi Ijalaye, the Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, passed away suddenly on Monday evening.
According to a source within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ijalaye collapsed and died after a significant meeting at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, led by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, addressed the forthcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States and discussed seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.

Reports indicate that Ijalaye, an Ondo State indigene known for his dedication to the electoral process, had been actively participating in the discussions and was in good spirits during the meeting. However, shortly after returning to his hotel room, he collapsed and died.
The official confirmation from INEC or Ijalaye’s family is still awaited. Efforts to contact his Principal Administrative Officer and other senior officials in the Ogun State INEC office have been unsuccessful so far.
