The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has directed its members to join the indefinite nationwide strike beginning June 3, 2024, in compliance with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) directive.

In a circular dated June 1, 2024, NUPENG General Secretary, Comrade Afolabi Olawale, urged all members and branches in oil and gas installations, operations, and services to ensure total compliance with the strike action.

The Union is protesting the Federal Government’s failure to negotiate a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers, despite various socio-economic policies that have impoverished the working class.

Olawale stated that NUPENG Leaders at all levels have been instructed to mobilize members for the strike, which will affect all aspects of the oil and gas industry, including distribution and marketing of petroleum products.
