Afrobeats singer Omah Lay has spoken candidly about the difficulties he’s faced in the music industry. Despite his success with hits like “Boy Alone,” Omah Lay revealed that he often feels unloved, particularly by the media and industry gatekeepers.

In an interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay shared that, to cope with this sense of isolation, he retreats into a fantasy world, spending most of his time in his own thoughts.

“I have my fans, family, and team, but I don’t feel loved, especially by the media and the so-called gatekeepers,” he admitted. “This is something I’ve never talked about. I’m that artist who lives in a fantasy world, spending 90 percent of my time in my head.”

He also touched on the challenges of traveling as a Nigerian artist, noting that holding a Nigerian passport often subjects him to harsh treatment from immigration officers. “Travelling with a Nigerian passport, I’ve seen the cruelty of the world so much,” Omah Lay said. “Immigration officers often mistreat me until they realize who I am, and only then does their attitude change.”
