  • Bright Osayi-Samuel has joined Birmingham City after a collapsed move to Beşiktaş.

  • The Nigerian brings experience from Fenerbahçe, QPR, and Blackpool.

  • His adaptability helps Birmingham’s bid for promotion in the Premier League.

During his tenure with the Turkish team, Osayi-Samuel made almost 180 appearances in both local and European games.

What makes Osayi-Samuel so valuable is his adaptability.

He can slot in at right-back, push up as a wing-back, or even join the attack as a winger.

That kind of versatility will be a real asset for Birmingham, fresh off their League One triumph.

He’s the Blues’ fourth summer capture joining Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle, and James Beadle and it really shows the club means business as they chase promotion.

“I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do,” -Osayi-Samuel told Birmingham’s website.

“Coming to Birmingham City now is another step for me, an opportunity to show everyone where I’ve been for the last four years.”

Interestingly, his move to Birmingham only came about after a deal with Beşiktaş fell through at the eleventh hour.

Osayi-Samuel joins Birmingham City on three-year deal

Reports on Haberler.com say he’d nearly signed a three-year contract worth €1.9 million a season, plus a €1 million signing-on fee.

Then, out of the blue, his camp asked for an extra €300,000 making Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı called that demand “unreasonable,” and bringing talks to a sudden halt.

Even after Osayi-Samuel personally appealed for talks to resume, the Turkish club wouldn’t budge, and Birmingham intervened.

He is currently preparing to return to English football ahead of the preseason in Portugal after playing for Blackpool, QPR, and Fenerbahçe.

Osayi-Samuel made his Nigerian debut in 2022 and has since amassed 22 caps. He also played in the Super Eagles’ 2023 AFCON final run.

His blistering pace, tactical smarts, and sheer ambition feel like the perfect match for a Birmingham side determined to climb back into the Premier League.
