Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole said Jonathan’s return bid would not serve him well, insisting that the former president’s peace and influence outside government were worth preserving.

“How can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before, when PDP was truly PDP.

“If a man had PDP at its peak, I think it is only his enemies that will push him into the ring. That may not be helpful to him,”Oshiomhole said.

The former APC national chairman noted that Jonathan had successfully carved a respectable image for himself after leaving office and should not jeopardise that by re-entering partisan battles.

“I think he has managed to demonstrate that out of power you can be relevant and really at peace. If I were him, I would maintain that status and spend the rest of my life building on that relevance,” Oshiomhole added.

Oshiomhole further stated that should Jonathan decide to contest, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would still defeat him convincingly in 2027, as it did in 2015, when the former president lost to late President Muhammadu Buhari.

He maintained that the political reality of the country had shifted since Jonathan’s era, warning that returning to the race could undo years of positive legacy-building.

Speculations have continued to circulate over Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race, especially amid calls from political supporters urging him to rejoin the contest. However, the former president has yet to make any official declaration.
