The immediate Past Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, has extended heartfelt congratulations and prayers to Senator Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark on his 97th birthday.

In a statement on Thursday, Otuaro praised Clark’s extraordinary contributions to Nigeria, from his early days as a teacher and lawyer in the Niger Delta, to his impactful roles as Commissioner for Education and Finance in the defunct Bendel State, Federal Commissioner (Minister) in Lagos, and Senator of the Federal Republic.

He lauded Clark as a “defender of the oppressed” and a pivotal political figure in the South-South geopolitical zone.

The statement reads, “Sir, I reflect today on your achievements and deserved appointments to exalted offices where you offered patriotic services to the Nigerian nation.

“From the creeks of the Niger Delta as passionate teacher and lawyer of the people, to the exalted offices as Commissioner for Education and Finance in defunct Bendel State; from Lagos, then nation’s capital as Federal Commissioner (Minister) to Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and thenceforth as leading political compass of the South-South geopolitical zone and beyond: the thrust has been service to the nation and defender of the oppressed!

“As you clock 97 years tomorrow, May 25, 2024, may the years of dedication of our living hero reverberate across the nation! May Nigeria rise to your protection in balance with her pledge. May Jehovah God’s surer protection abide with you as you celebrate a glorious life.

“Happy 97th Birthday, Gogorogo!”
