The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that over 505,906 Nigerians have completed their online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within the first five days of its resumption.

The announcement was made on Friday, 22nd August, 2025, in Abuja by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who was represented at the event by National Commissioner, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu.

Yakubu noted that the overwhelming response showed Nigerians’ determination to participate in the democratic process.

He revealed that the online pre-registration began on Monday, 18th August, 2025, while the physical phase is scheduled to commence on Monday, 25th August, 2025.

From that date, both fresh registrants and those who pre-registered online will be able to complete their registration at INEC state and local government offices across the federation, where biometric capturing will take place.

The Commission also rolled out a sensitisation campaign to raise voter awareness. The campaign included a colourful roadshow by the Voter Education and Publicity Department, which moved from INEC Headquarters in Maitama through Banex Plaza in Wuse, down to Wuse Market, engaging citizens and distributing flyers.

Similar sensitisation activities will take place across all states as INEC pushes for greater voter mobilisation.

Yakubu emphasised that eligible citizens, especially young Nigerians and those who have turned 18, should take advantage of the exercise to register or update their details.

He reminded Nigerians that voter registration is the foundation of meaningful electoral participation.

The CVR will run across 811 centres nationwide, including all 774 local government offices, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. Through the online portal, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, citizens can pre-register, verify PVC status, locate registration centres, transfer registration, replace lost PVCs, or correct personal information.

INEC assured that special provisions are in place to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, stressing that the exercise is a collective responsibility requiring support from all stakeholders.
