The two-term lawmaker particularly lamented over the plight of the delegates, who were prevented from voting during the primary elections over President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure to assenting the amended electoral act.

“I and my campaign organisation once again thank you for the uncommon show of support to us in the recent primary election. Certainly we would have all voted if we were to all vote, but we’re all adults and we all hold it a duty to choose whom we want.

“Rightly or wrongly, as a party, we’re doing this together because as human beings, we’re obligated to have divert opinions during elections. The primary election has passed, hence, we’re also obligated to come together and work for the party.

” I appreciate everyone of us who have been consistent in our duty as delegates. We’re all victims of the situation because I was supposed to be a delegate, but by that law that was passed in our House, so what you suffered, I also suffered.

“I understand that some of us were very discomforted by that event. Sometimes in life, it happens.

“However, even though the elections have come and gone, and some of us were shut out, we felt the need to extend the arm of fellowship to our people who were denied by the provision of the electoral act that wasn’t signed by Mr President.

“It is our sincere belief that after this moment, we’ll all come together and work for the party at various levels,” Pondi said.

He further presented the delegates, working committee and non-working committee members, and others with cash gifts.

In his response, the PDP Chairman in Burutu local government area, Hon. Ebike Oromoni commended Pondi for remaining magnanimous in remembering the delegates and other working committee members who were affected by the issue.

Oromoni charged Pondi and other elected officers of the party to prioritise the welfare of working committee members, who give their all towards sustaining the structure of the party.

He also assured the lawmaker of continued support of the leadership of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Pondi polled 22 out of a possible 34 votes to clinch the PDP ticket for the Burutu Federal Constituency, in pursuance of his third term in the Green Chambers.
