Pheelz Opens Up About Transition from Producer to Singer: ‘I Wanted to Die Empty’

Pheelz

Moses Kayode Phillips, the Nigerian record producer and singer, widely known as Pheelz, opened up about his long-standing passion for singing, which he nurtured even while serving as the in-house producer for YBNL before transitioning into a full-fledged artist.

He revealed that some of the artists he produced for during that time ended up releasing songs he had originally written for himself.

The ‘Finesse’ artist explained that his decision to fully pursue singing came after battling COVID-19, as he felt compelled to make the most of his talents and not leave anything unexpressed.

In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Pheelz elaborated on his journey and motivations.

“Some of the artistes I produced for, released music I wrote for myself.

“COVID-19 happened and I had to really think about my life because I caught the virus and almost died.

“I was like, ‘I have to die empty if at all. You can’t have all these awesome stuff [talents] inside you and you’re afraid. Don’t care, just die empty’.”
