Police Arrest Man who Beat his Lover to Death in Anambra

A man identified as Ikenna Asiegbu has been arrested by operatives of the Anambra State police command for allegedly beating his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chidimma Christopher to death.

The incident happened on Saturday February 4, at Urutolu village, Mgbakwu Community in Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State.

It was gathered that Ikenna assaulted the deceased who just put to birth, despite interventions from neighbours.

After the victim was confirmed dead, angry youths in the community descended on ikenna and beat him to a stupor. They tried setting him ablaze before some vigilante members intervened, and took him to their office.

The community youths who insisted that he be released to them, said there’s an agreement in the community that anyone who kills someone will be killed also.

Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra State Police Spokesman, while confirming the incident on Sunday February 5, said the suspect is in police custody.

Ikenga said;

“On Saturday, we received information that the suspect beat and murdered the victim in his house at Mgbakwu. The victim was rescued and rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Further development shall be communicated please.”
