The Adamawa State Police Command has detained two of its officers for firing gunshots at a civilian-driven Mercedes 180 during a routine inspection along River Side, Jimeta. The incident, which sparked outrage among residents, was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who described the officers’ behaviour as a serious breach of professional conduct.

According to Nguroje, the officers were stationed at a checkpoint under the Jimeta Divisional Police Headquarters when they stopped the vehicle for a routine search. The officers reportedly claimed that the occupants resisted inspection, but preliminary investigations showed that one of the policemen reacted in a manner “prejudicial to discipline” by shooting at the tyres of the car.

Fortunately, no occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries.

In his statement, Nguroje explained that the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, immediately ordered the arrest of the officers and directed that a full investigation be carried out to establish what truly happened and identify the specific breaches of procedure.

He reassured the public that the Adamawa State Police Command remains committed to enforcing discipline within its ranks and will not tolerate any abuse of power or violation of citizens’ rights.
