  • The Kano state police command have arrested four bandits, recovering weapons in Kano state.

  • The bandits were arrested following credible intelligence and efforts in curbing banditry.

  • The suspects are alleged to have come to Kano with the intention of buying AK-47 rifles.

Men of the Kano state police command have paraded a group of bandits in the state.

According to reports, the bandits were arrested in the Hotoro area of Kano state.

Confirming the arrest, the state command PPRO, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement released on Saturday, March 8 said the police recovered items like arms, and charms from the suspects.

He added that the suspects had come to Kano with the intention of purchasing ammunition.

 

In compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM to all Police Commands and Formations on renewed vigor and determination to dominate the public space against all forms of criminal activities, the Kano State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb infiltration of banditry and related crimes in the State,” the statement read.

“On 6th March 2025, at about 2:00 pm, a team of Police detectives led by SP Ahmad Abdullahi, Officer-in-Charge of Jar Kuka Out-Post, Kano, apprehended four suspected bandits at Chula Filling Station, Hotoro Quarters, Kano.

 

“The suspects, namely Shukurana Salihu, 25 years old, Rabi’u Dahiru, 35 years old, Ya’u Idris, 30 years old, all from Katsina State and Muktar Sani, 30 years old, of Yandodo Hotoro Quarters, Kano, were arrested based on credible intelligence that they were in Kano with intent to purchase an AK-47 rifle.

“Upon thorough search, the following items were recovered: three (3) locally made revolver pistols, twelve (12) live ammunition of different calibers, four (4) cartridges, twenty-four (24) pieces of bearing balls, four (4) knives, one (1) cutlass, cash sum of one million, twenty-eight thousand, eight hundred naira (N1,028,800) and some suspected charms.

“The suspects are currently undergoing discreet investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of the investigation.

“This achievement is a testament to the Command’s commitment to tackling the infiltration of banditry into the state and other forms of criminality. We appreciate the support and cooperation of the public in our efforts to maintain law and order.”
