Police Recover 5 Bodies in Anambra Boat Mishap

Police Recover 5 Bodies in Anambra Boat Mishap | Daily Report Nigeria

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered about five bodies in a recent boat mishap that happened in the state

According to the police, the tragic boat accident took place on Sunday morning, resulting also in the rescue of over thirty passengers.

The incident occurred on the River Niger, involving a boat carrying women, children, and goods.

Prompt action was taken by passers-by from the Onitsha banks to assist the victims.

It was said that in response to a distress call, the police promptly intervened and effectively managed the situation.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga while confirming the incident added that the boat originated from Kogi State.

Ikenga said:

“We were able to rescue over 30 of the passengers alive and recovered the five lifeless bodies in the depths of the sea and the capsized boat.

“Preliminary information revealed that the boat was from Kogi State, conveying goods and passengers before the unfortunate incident occurred.

“Meanwhile, the cause is yet to be ascertained as the investigation is ongoing, please.”
