The Nigeria Police Force has removed ACP Ben Hundeyin from his position as Force Public Relations Officer, barely six months after he assumed the role as the official police spokesman in Nigeria.

Sources within the police hierarchy confirmed the development, noting that the change is part of a broader restructuring currently taking place within the force.

A source familiar with the situation revealed that the decision was implemented earlier in the day.

“The Force Public Relations Officer has been removed this morning,” the source confirmed.

The development comes shortly after Tunji Disu was appointed as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Disu assumed office following the removal of former police chief Kayode Egbetokun, who had led the Nigeria Police Force since 2023.

Observers believe the removal of Ben Hundeyin may be connected to the ongoing reorganisation within the police leadership since the new Inspector-General of Police took charge.

While the position of police spokesman is considered crucial to communication between the force and the public, authorities have yet to announce who will replace Hundeyin.

A police source said many officers initially believed he would remain in the role longer due to his professional background and communication skills.

“We don’t know who will take over from him, although we thought he would last longer considering his expertise,” the source said.

The source added that changes in key positions often occur whenever a new police chief assumes office.

“However, when a new IGP is appointed, it is not unusual for some positions to change. Unfortunately, he was affected.”

Who is Ben Hundeyin?

ACP Ben Hundeyin, who hails from Badagry in Lagos State, was appointed Force Public Relations Officer by former Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.

He is a graduate of Lagos State University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English Language.

Hundeyin also holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

Before his removal, he was widely known for actively engaging with Nigerians on social media while serving as the official spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.
