Police Service Commission Pledges To Address FSARS Excesses

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said that it would not give room and allow outlaw officers to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

The PSC pledged to address the rights violations and excesses by officers of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other special tactical units attached to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu.

Meanwhile, the IGP had directed senior police officers to compile cases of indiscipline and abuse of power by the rank and file and be forwarded to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Through a released statement by the PSC Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, the IGP noted measures to stem the illegal activities of the affected personnels and also promised to sanction any errant officer henceforth.

In the statement titled, “FSARS outcry: PSC to sanction deviant, rolls out contact information for citizens”, the PSC assured that it would monitor the activities of policemen and mete out appropiate sanctions.

It reads;

“The commission will henceforth, closely monitor the activities of these officers and will not hesitate to punish deviants who may want to continue in their old habits. The commission will not allow these few outlaws to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The Police Service Commission has the constitutional mandate to discipline, dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over officers in the Nigeria Police Force except the Inspector-General of Police. This mandate, it will discharge without fear or favour.”
