Tragedy struck on the Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State yesterday when a pregnant woman lost her life in a deadly road accident involving multiple vehicles.

The crash, which occurred in the afternoon, involved a Toyota Camry with registration number AAB-248 MK, a commercial tricycle marked JGB-643 VD, and a payloader.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident happened after the driver of the Toyota Camry lost control of his vehicle. The car reportedly veered off its lane and rammed into a moving tricycle, killing the pregnant woman on the spot.

Akinbiyi explained that the payloader operator, the Camry driver, and other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries during the crash. Eyewitnesses at the scene said the impact was so severe that it threw the tricycle off balance, drawing the attention of passers-by who quickly rushed the victims to nearby hospitals in Sagamu.

The TRACE spokesperson added that the deceased woman’s body has been deposited in a morgue, while efforts are ongoing to contact her family. He also cautioned motorists to avoid reckless driving, especially along busy routes like the Sagamu Expressway, where frequent crashes have claimed many lives.

Residents of the area have since called on authorities to install additional road safety signs and enforce stricter speed limits to reduce accidents on the highway.
