Premier League Clubs to Vote on VAR’s Future Amidst Controversy

VAR in Premier League

Premier League clubs are set to vote on Thursday on whether to abolish the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.

The decision will be made during their annual general meeting, with Wolves driving the vote after feeling hard done by numerous times.

The 2023/2024 season saw several high-profile errors from VAR, including the failure to award a goal that was proven to be onside for Liverpool in their loss to Tottenham.

VAR was introduced ahead of the 2019/2020 season and remains a contentious issue among fans and pundits.

The proposal requires 14 votes from the 20 clubs to pass, but according to the UK Mirror, Wolves are unlikely to secure the necessary support, meaning VAR is set to remain in place.
